Vicinay Marine: Improvement Driven from Operations

Vicinay Marine competes globally by manufacturing safety components for floating platforms. In this demanding environment, Jesús Navas Posada, Director of Operations, shares how the progressive implementation of a Lean system—with support from SGS PRODUCTIVITY—has helped them improve productivity, quality, and project management.

Competing in critical sectors

Vicinay Marine is part of the Vicinay Group and specialises in manufacturing chains and safety accessories for sectors like offshore wind, oil & gas, and maritime industries. Their products are critical—they ensure the safety of connections between floating platforms, anchors, and other offshore elements.

But beyond technical reliability, the market now demands competitiveness. Intense pressure from Asian competitors, particularly from China, pushed Vicinay Marine to take action. High-value product development was no longer enough—they also needed to enhance operational efficiency and project management capabilities.

A phased journey with a global view

Continuous improvement wasn’t tackled as a one-time project but as a sequence of strategically deployed initiatives. The logical first step was to improve productivity on the shop floor. The results were so positive that the company soon expanded the Lean approach to other key areas.

One of the biggest breakthroughs came when Lean was applied to project management—a key competitive differentiator for the company. Optimising this area allowed for a significant leap forward. Eventually, Lean tools were extended to general process management across the entire organisation.

Results that set a trend

The first productivity-focused project was pivotal: it delivered remarkable improvements in a short time and served as a springboard for broader organisational change. But the real differentiator wasn’t just in the numbers—it was in how the system was implemented.

As Jesús emphasises, this wasn’t about external consultants fixing problems. It was about acquiring tools, developing critical thinking, and building solutions internally. “They didn’t tell us what to do—they helped us think, so we could make the improvements ourselves”.

The experience with SGS PRODUCTIVITY

The connection with SGS PRODUCTIVITY began naturally—through a recommendation from a trusted company in their network. A casual conversation quickly turned into a strategic collaboration.

Since then, Vicinay Marine has strengthened its improvement system using a clear methodology, close support, and a practical mindset. It’s not just about optimisation—it’s about building a culture, standardising improvements, and multiplying impact.
