Today we will dive into our story alongside Salvador García de-Lucchi, Technical Director at Mayoral Moda Infantil — a leading brand with over 80 years of experience, a global presence, and a clear commitment to innovation and operational excellence. Driven by their strong commitment to continuous improvement, Mayoral decided to take a step further in their organizational evolution, implementing a Lean system with the support of SGS productivity. Here is their experience.
What made you decide to implement Lean in your company?
Continuous improvement has always been embedded in Mayoral’s DNA as a core principle. However, we realized the need to refine and improve several aspects of our current method, as well as to foster a greater alignment and engagement at all levels.
What results have you achieved through the implementation of Lean?
Lean is an organizational model designed to make people more effective, to boost productivity. It is based on teamwork along a clear method.
We have achieved operational efficiency, stimulated a greater motivation among our people, awakened a sense of belongingness in them, effective communication and greater involvement and engagement.
It has meant a meaningful step forward.
What was the key moment or highlight of the project?
I wouldn’t say there was one unique key moment. It was rather a sustained, gradual process of tenacity and conviction. The effects and results build up gradually, building confidence and triggering imagination and ideas to contribute to the company.
Why did you choose SGS PRODUCTIVITY?
We placed our confidence in SGS PRODUCTIVITY based on references from the visits we made to several industries. They all expressed to us how there had genuinely been a before an after.
Tell us about a memorable moment you’ve had working with SGS Productivity. In what ways has your team evolved over the course of the project?
Rather than punctual anecdotes, I would say there are stories of personal growth with real faces and names.
A shop floor supervisor used to mechanically following work orders, is now not only able, but most importantly confident enough as to propose, design and lead an improvement workshop. Only from the ground level can one really have the sensitivity and insight that is needed for planning and execution.
What can a priori seem like a small change has led to major improvements in the removal of bottlenecks and the improvement of efficienct reuse of materials.
If you had to sum up your collaboration with SGS productivity in just one sentence…what would it be?
Down-to-earth, hands-on the shop floor and always by our side.
