AGC: industrial excellence with a focus on people

As part of our 20th anniversary, we continue sharing real transformation stories with companies that have embraced continuous improvement as a lever for evolution.

On this occasion, we spoke with Jesús Díez-Madroñero, Plant Manager of the AGC plant in Sagunto, dedicated to the manufacture of flat glass for architecture and automotive, with processes such as float, laminated, mirror and matt.

In this interview, he tells us why they decided to implement Lean, what results they have achieved and how they have experienced the change from within after nearly four years of collaboration with SGS Productivity.

What led you to implement Lean in your company?

We decided to implement Lean in the pursuit of continuous improvement and excellence in production, using proven methodologies that deliver results. We already had work teams, Kaizen groups and awards to promote innovation.

What have you achieved thanks to Lean?

Above all, we have achieved a methodology that involves workers and shop floor operators in the monitoring of KPIs that have traditionally been considered the responsibility of managers.

What was the key moment of the project?

Perhaps one of the key moments was when we started the project in our warehouse. We saw that the reception of the project had been very positive and that it had generated a certain level of “healthy” competition between shifts.

Why did you choose us?

We knew SGS PRODUCTIVITY from previous training sessions and saw it as a company knowledgeable in the methodology with strong professionals.

Tell us an anecdote you experienced with SGS Productivity.

The fact that we have worked together for several years (it will soon be 4) during the implementation and that we have always had the same coordinator, Daniel Martinez Suay, whom we internally called “Daniel Lean” or “Danielín”.

How have you seen your team evolve throughout the project?

All teams have embraced the methodology and value it as very useful for managing their processes, even though the method has meant a bit more daily work for them.

If you had to define the collaboration with SGS Productivity in one sentence… what would it be?

The relationship with SGS has been very satisfactory both because of the results and the professionals we have worked with.
